Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program Ranks World’s No.1 for Ninth Time
The Executive MBA (EMBA) Program jointly offered by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Kellogg School of Management is ranked No.1 in the world in the latest Financial Times (FT) Global EMBA Rankings. This year marks the ninth time the Kellogg-HKUST EMBA Program has topped this highly respected international chart and comes during the Program’s 20th anniversary. HKUST Receives HK$200 Million Donation from Guangdong Bright Dream Robotics to Foster Research and Education in Robotics and AI
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a HK$200 million donation from Guangdong Bright Dream Robotics to enrich the University’s work in talent development and research innovation, with focus on areas including robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), smart cities and big data. The magnanimous gift of Guangdong Bright Dream Robotics - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Country Garden Holdings Company Limited - will be used to sponsor a professorship and a scholarship program among other causes.  The donation will allow HKUST to step up efforts in advancing research and nurturing talents, thus supporting the transition of Hong Kong and Mainland into a knowledge-based economy through the development in innovation and technology.

HKUST Hosts Inaugural Asia-Pacific Rising Stars Women in Engineering Workshop to Nurture Female Academic Leaders and Promote Diversity in Academia
Dozens of young female engineers and postgraduate students from top universities and institutions worldwide arrived at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on 4 October to explore a career of teaching and research in Asia Pacific. They participated in a first-of-its-kind workshop where faculty members from top Asian universities will mentor and inspire them on ways to begin a rewarding career in academia.

HKUST Receives HK$100 Million Donation from Otto Poon Charitable Foundation to Promote Research and Education in Sustainability
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a HK$100 million donation from Otto Poon Charitable Foundation (the Foundation), for the enhancement of HKUST’s development in research, education innovation and knowledge transfer. The Foundation’s generous gift will be used to set up an endowment fund to boost the work of the University’s faculty, as well as academic and research units focusing on environment, technology and innovation. That includes the recently established Division of Integrative Systems and Design – which oversees a transformative new program set to nurture students’ problem solving ability and critical thinking through close collaboration with the industry.

HKUST Launches HK’s First Tech-Based Degree Program in Data Science and Technology
The School of Science (SSCI) and the School of Engineering (SENG) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) jointly launched a new degree program in Data Science and Technology (DSCT) amid a pressing demand for data scientists in a world of data explosion. As the first tech-based data science program in Hong Kong for undergraduate students, DSCT seeks to nurture interdisciplinary and pragmatic talents who could address the needs of the society with data analytic and technical approaches.At present, data science programs for undergraduate students tend to focus more on the business dimension - such as how to derive business and management strategies from a pool of data, and less on data engineering skills including coding, machine learning and statistic theories.

HKUST Establishes Center for Artificial Intelligence Research to Spearhead Comprehensive Development of AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to disrupt every industry in every walk of human life.  To promote healthy development of AI, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently established the Center for AI Research (CAiRE) - the first such center among local universities, to spearhead cross-disciplinary research in all scientific, technological, societal, business and educational aspects of AI. Over 60 senior management members and professionals from conglomerates including JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, China Construction Bank International, Alibaba and Baidu witnessed the establishment of CAiRE today, with Prof. Wei SHYY, HKUST President and Prof. Pascale FUNG, Founding Director of CAiRE, officiating at the ceremony.

HKUST Students, Staff and Faculty Offered Free MOOC Certificates in Exclusive Pilot Program With Coursera
Students, staff and faculty members at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) will be able to obtain free certificates for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) offered by HKUST on Coursera, under a pilot scheme between this major MOOC platform and several selected universities – with HKUST being the only institution from Asia.
