HKUST Holds the Seventh One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition Winners Improve Life with Innovative Design
Over 900 teams comprising students, startups and professionals participated in the seventh annual One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition organized by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in five cities this year, more than doubled over a year ago.The Competition was first extended to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macau last year. Prof Gary Chan, Director of the Entrepreneurship Center, said it is encouraging to see the Competition, originally an initiative to nurture entrepreneurs at HKUST, to have grown into a regional contest that helps cultivate entrepreneurial spirits and promote exchange of ideas across the border. “We have witnessed not only an increase in scale, but also rising quality of the submitted proposals and depth of market traction,” said Prof Chan. We are particularly excited to see a record-high industrial sponsorship to the event this year.”

HKUST Researchers Develop Novel Audio Technology and Sales Model that Bring More Affordable and Better-performed Hearing Aids
Researchers from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have developed an intelligent hearing aid which not only allows users to adjust the clarity of selected sound sources, but is also much more affordable at just one tenth the price of similar products in the market.Developed by Prof Richard So from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management and his student Calvin Zhang, fresh graduate of MPhil Program in Technology Leadership and Entrepreneurship (TLE), the novel audio technology not only promises to improve life for the elderly and the hearing-impaired, but will also enhance the audio quality of hearing protection equipment and communication devices such as mobile phones and walkie-talkies, as well as the accuracy of voice recognition devices.

HKUST Holds One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition in Five Cities for the First Time
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) expanded its sixth annual One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition from Hong Kong to a total of five cities this year. The Competition, which over the years has fostered the entrepreneurial spirit on the campus, motivated over 500 teams from Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Macau and Hong Kong to join the contest.As a forerunner to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, the Competition has eventually grown from a platform to nurture promising entrepreneurs at HKUST, into a regional contest that instills entrepreneurial culture and promotes exchange of ideas among young innovators across the border.

HKUST Physicist Prof Gyu Boong Jo Wins Croucher Innovation Award 2016
Prof Gyu Boong Jo, Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), was honored with the prestigious Croucher Innovation Award 2016 by the Croucher Foundation for his distinguished scientific research achievements. The award carries a value of HK$5 million over a span of five years. Prof Rosie Young, GBS, JP, officiated at the award presentation ceremony yesterday.

HKUST holds the 5th One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition to Foster Entrepreneurial Spirit
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held its fifth annual HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition to foster entrepreneurship and identify the best business plans. The Competition offers a platform for the HKUST community to bring their innovative ideas from concepts to consumers. Winners can use the cash prize as seed money to form their companies or to commercialize their inventions.More than 100 teams competed for the awards this year with each team consisted of at least one member of students, faculty, staff and alumni from HKUST. An international judging panel made up of investors and leading executives shortlisted 16 finalists for the last round of competition.Parle, a team formed by four HKUST students, won the President’s Prize with a cash award of HK$300,000, while the second place and third place were claimed by team “NanoPrint” and “NovaMatrix” respectively.

The Competition is a platform for HKUST community to bring their business ideas focusing on innovative and technology from concept to consumer. Winners can use the cash prize as seed money to form their companies or to realize the commercialization of their inventions.A total of 117 teams participated in the Competition this year. Each team consisted of at least one member of students, faculties, staff and alumni from HKUST’s school of Science, Engineering and Business. An international judging panel comprising leading executives, venture capitalists and entrepreneurial academics shortlisted 12 finalists for the final round of competition.

HKUST 2013 One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition Fosters Entrepreneurial Spirit
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the annual HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition with total awards amounting to HK$1 million to foster entrepreneurship. The championship went to Solaris, while Agito Group Limited and Inno-Chemos (International) Technology Limited were the second place and third place winners respectively.This year, 85 teams participated in the Competition. Each team consists of at least one member of faculty, staff, students and alumni from HKUST's schools of Science, Engineering and Business. An international judging panel comprising leading executives, professional investors and entrepreneurial academics selected 12 finalists.

HKUST Organizes 2012 One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition To Foster Entrepreneurial Spirit
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition again this year. Neoid Limited was the champion, while Green ACE and iTorr were the first and second runners-up. The total awards offered by this Competition amounted to HK$1 million.This was the second time HKUST organized the HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition. 89 teams made up of faculty, staff, students and alumni from the schools of Science, Engineering and Business participated. More than 50 leading executives, professional investors and entrepreneurial academics formed an international judging panel to select 12 finalists after rounds of rigorous competitions.
