HKUST UC RUSAL President's Forum invites Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange to Share Insights into Global Consumer Trends in 2030
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and UC RUSAL invite Mr Barry Cheung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange and Independent Non-Executive Director of UC RUSAL, to speak at the UC RUSAL President's Forum on 2 November 2012 (Friday), during which he will explore the impacts of population growth on global consumer markets under the theme of '8.5 Billion Global Consumers by 2030: Opportunity or Looming Disaster'. Hosted by Prof Tony F Chan, President of HKUST, the UC RUSAL President's Forum features Mr Barry Cheung delivering his insights into how global consumer trends will be affected by global population growth, with the number of global consumers expected to hit 8.5 billion by 2030. Mr Barry Cheung will provide insights into a range of positive and negative implications of this tremendous population growth including: The sustainability of the global economic recovery; The global impact of limited resources;

HKUST Hosts My Toy Design Competition 2013
My Toy Design Competition 2013 is the first of its kind to be hosted by the Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management (IELM) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The aims of this Competition are to nurture creativity, encourage exceptional students to pursue a career in design, recruit passionate young toy designers and maintain the overall competitiveness and sustainable development of the toy industry in Hong Kong. China dominates the toy export market as the world’s largest toy manufacturer with over two-thirds of all toys being made in China. Hong Kong is the world’s second largest toy exporter. Domestic toy exports have nearly doubled from HK$154 million in 2009 to HK$302 million in 2011, demonstrating an increasing trend of more toys being both designed and produced in Hong Kong and the South China region and creating a dire need to find and encourage local talents.

HKUST Hosts Shaw Prize Lecture by World-renowned Life Science Scientists on Protein Folding
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) presented today (18 September) The Shaw Prize Lecture in Life Science & Medicine 2012 featuring the distinguished recipients of this year’s Shaw Prize in Life Science & Medicine, Prof Arthur L Horwich and Prof Franz-Ulrich Hartl. Some 400 participants including HKUST students, faculty, alumni, as well as experts from research institutes, industry, secondary school students and the public were impressed by the inspiring lectures.
