HKUST Institute for Emerging Market Studies, EY and Golden Age Foundation Sign MoU to advance “Smart Ecosystem for the Silver Population” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Institute for Emerging Market Studies, EY1 and Golden Age Foundation have jointly announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to officially activate the development of the “Smart Ecosystem for the Silver Population” in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). This initiative aims to promote the development of the region’s elderly care industry. The signing ceremony, held during the “BOC Life 10th Golden Age Expo and Summit”, was witnessed by Mr. Ho Kai Ming, JP, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

HKUST, Crystal Group, and HKRITA Signed Framework Agreement
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has signed a tripartite framework agreement with global apparel manufacturer Crystal International Group Limited (Crystal Group) and the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) to integrate advanced artificial intelligence (AI) throughout the textile production process. By developing industry-specific large language model Textile-GPT for textiles, the collaboration aims to enhance intelligent design, optimize production process, streamline supply chain management, automate quality inspections, and foster innovation in smart wearables.

HKUST and Wuhan Union Hospital Jointly Establish "Collaborative Center for Medical and Engineering Innovation"

HKUST Appointed by WHO to Lead Regional Consortium on Digital Health Innovation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has been appointed by the Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO), a collaborative partnership hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Regional Office for the Western Pacific, to spearhead a regional research consortium focused on digital health innovation. This prestigious appointment, secured through a competitive process, underscores HKUST’s global leadership in policy research under the theme “Leveraging Digital Health Technologies and Data to Strengthen Health System Outcomes.”

HKUST Showcases Thought Leadership at World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos 2025
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) contributed to global conversations at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2025, also known as Summer Davos, held in Tianjin, China, from June 24-26, 2025. This 16th Annual Meeting, themed "Entrepreneurship for a New Era", welcomed a record-breaking attendance of approximately 1,800 leaders from government, business, academia, as well as innovators and representatives from international organizations, media, and civil society. HKUST Associate Vice President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer) Dr. KIM Shin Cheul; Prof. Alex HE, Acting Director of HKUST Institute for Public Policy; and Prof. SU Hui, Chair Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Global STEM Professor, were invited to attend the event.

HKUST President Nancy Ip Advocates International Collaboration for Longevity at APRU Presidents' Meeting 2025
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) President Professor Nancy IP attended the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) 29th Annual Presidents' Meeting (APM), hosted by University of California, San Diego from June 22-24. The three-day conference, themed “Human Longevity in a Changing World: Innovation, Education, and Leadership for a Resilient Future”, uniting global academic leaders and experts to discuss the future of longevity and artificial intelligence (AI) research.
In light of the dual challenges posed by aging populations and increasing chronic diseases, President Ip joined distinguished university leaders, including President Kohei ITOH, Keio University; Vice-Chancellor and President Peter HØJ, The University of Adelaide; and Prof. LU Yanqing, Vice-President of Nanjing University, to share insights on how AI can advance research and innovation focused on longevity and improve quality of life across various disciplines.

HKUST and AstraZeneca Hong Kong Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Advance Life Sciences and Healthcare Innovation
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and AstraZeneca Hong Kong (AstraZeneca) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build on their long-standing partnership, aiming to accelerate research and development (R&D) and drive innovation in the city’s life sciences ecosystem. The signing ceremony was held at the HKUST Unicorn Day 2025, an occasion where entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders come together for technological knowledge exchange and collaboration.
Witnessed by President of HKUST and the Morningside Professor of Life Science, Prof. Nancy Ip and General Manager of AstraZeneca Hong Kong and Macau Ms. Shan Wu, the MoU was officially signed by Vice-President for Research and Development at HKUST, Prof. Tim Cheng and Head of Medical Affairs, BioPharmaceuticals & Rare Disease of AstraZeneca Hong Kong Mr. Tin Hung Wong.

HKUST and University of Bristol Join Forces for Global Research Impact
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed Prof. Evelyn WELCH, Vice-Chancellor and President, and Michael BENSON, Director of Global Partnerships at the University of Bristol, on May 20 to deepen research ties and spark new collaboration.
HKUST Provost Prof. GUO Yike and HKUST (Guangzhou) Vice-President and Dean of HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School Prof. Charles NG had a productive meeting with the Bristol delegation. This visit marked a significant milestone with the signing of two agreements - a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and the launch of a joint HKUST-Bristol Global Knowledge Network(GKN) research seed grant initiative. The joint research initiative aims to foster global academic collaboration between researchers at the two universities and maximize research impact.
