At the 25th COTA International Conference of Transportation Professionals (CICTP 2025), CIVL Chair Prof. YANG Hai talked about the evolution of autonomous vehicles from robots to social partners. 

Commenting on the alternative therapies advocated by Dr. Alexander YUAN in the 1990s, LIFS Assoc. Head and Prof. Robert KO Kam-Ming said in an interview with TVB that scientific evidence is required to validate a therapeutic practice.  

Dr. Justin CHENG, a Registered Medical Practitioner at HKUST and the CEO and Co-founder of SmartCare, explained that the an AI platform developed by HKUST serves as a one-stop AI solution for healthcare., SmartCare enables Intelligent Pre-visit Triage, reduces administrative workload, and features Virtual Patient training module to ensure privacy protection. 

The "AI Innovation and Education Forum," hosted by HKUST and organized by its Shanghai Industry-Education Integration Center, was held at WAIC 2025.

ENVR Chief Development Strategist/Adjunct Prof. Christine LOH delivered a speech at the TVB Green Summit 2025, which introduced the "TVB ESG Awards 2025" and the panel of judges. 

HKUST signed a framework agreement with Crystal International Group Limited and the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), which aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) in the textile production process.  

HKUST introduced the SmartCare system, an AI platform developed by Prof. CHEN Hao from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Director of Smart Lab, which is applied in its on-campus clinic. The platform redefines patient journeys from triage to treatment.

Articles on Cyberport leading nine start-ups to join World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2025. It was mentioned that a forum entitled "The Bay Area Hub in the Age of AI: HK’s New Vision for the Smart Economy" featured speakers from leading technology enterprises including Provost Prof. GUO Yike.

As part of HKUST's Student Innovation for Global Health Technology (SIGHT) program, some HKUST students embarked on fieldwork in Sri Lanka to address healthcare challenges there through innovative telemedicine platforms and interactive games. 

Researchers led by CIVL Prof. ZHAO Jidong have developed the PUA-DEM (Pore Unit Assembly-Discrete Element Method), a new computational model that can accurately predict the movement of granular materials like soils, sands, and powders by integrating dynamic interactions among particles, air, and water phases.

A research team led by CEE Prof. Dan TSANG has discovered a previously unrecognized atomic-scale mechanism that impedes efficient lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling, challenging longstanding assumptions and paving the way for cleaner and high-yield recovery of critical metals used in lithium-ion batteries.

In an article about two key challenges in low-altitude operations, it was highlighted that HKUST is pioneering research in aerodynamics and acoustics to tackle these issues. Notably, MAE Chair Prof. ZHANG Xin and MAE Research Asst. Prof. ZHOU Peng have combined advanced aerospace engineering with human-centered design to make aerial vehicles quieter and safer.
