HKUST Researchers Develop Low-cost and Multifunctional Microprinter for Ultrafast Piezoelectric Material Printing
A research team led by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has developed a microprinter that can print piezoelectric films 100 times faster for the production of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) for sensors, wearable or implantable medical devices, offering the possibility to lower the mass production costs.
The microprinter, built at a comparatively lower cost as compared with other printers on the market, utilizes an electrostatic field to propel streams of ink onto a platform, allowing for efficient manipulation of thin film patterns and enhanced printing speed to address the challenge of mass production and control of structures and feature sizes.

HKUST Hosts AEARU AGM & BOD Meeting to Propel Research Innovation and Global Collaboration
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the 53rd Board of Directors meeting of The Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU) from November 6-8, 2023. This significant event brought together representatives from 16 top-tier universities across East Asia and marked a pivotal milestone in advancing regional collaboration.
The meeting reviewed the various activities organized by the member universities of AEARU over the past year, and planned for the upcoming year's meetings and events, as well as nominated the Chair of the AEARU for the year 2024 -2025. In a significant acknowledgment of HKUST’s leadership in higher education, HKUST has been elected as the Chair of the Alliance. This role offers HKUST a prime opportunity to champion collaborative efforts among leading research-intensive universities in the East Asian region.

HKUST Showcases Health Innovations to Visiting Delegation from The Netherlands
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcome the delegation from The Netherlands, led by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, in late October. HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP, along with her research team from the Hong Kong Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (HKCeND), and the head of the Knowledge Transfer Office (Biomedical and Healthcare), met with the delegation and had constructive conversation.

HKUSTours Invite Public to Explore Scenic Campus and Surrounding Neighborhood (Chinese version only)
香港科技大學(科大)與由校友創立的社企「街坊帶路」合作,在本月初正式推出「科大深度遊」(HKUSTours) 活動。由衆多不同背景的科大成員,包括現任或已退休的教職員及校友自願擔任導賞員,帶領參與導賞團的科大成員及公眾人士遊覽校園和坑口社區,加深大眾對科大和周邊地區文化和歷史的認識,藉此增強科大與社群的連繫。導賞員包括自創校起於李兆基圖書館工作逾30年的Edwin,以及在海洋研究實驗中心擔任技術員的科大校友Bernadette,他們對科大充滿美好回憶,藉帶領導賞團向參加者分享他們的「科大情」的故事。
科大於本月共舉辦六場「科大深度遊」導賞團,路綫跨越了校園的界限,除了漫步校園、欣賞沿途美景外,範圍亦擴展至與科大一同成長的坑口社區。26名來自科大社群的導賞員,還透過參與路綫設計及分享自己在科大的獨特故事,將參加者和科大精神聯繫起來。
「科大深度遊」開放予公眾人士參與,活動於9月初接受報名,反應熱烈,名額於開放報名後的兩日內已全數爆滿。有見及此,負責「科大深度遊」活動的環球事務及傳訊處計劃於明年初再度舉辦多場相同主題的導賞團,讓更多市民大眾能透過參與導賞活動,了解科大不同的一面。

HKUST President Prof. Nancy IP Welcomes Policy Address
Prof. Nancy IP, President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), warmly welcomes and expresses deep appreciation for the comprehensive range of initiatives introduced by Chief Executive Mr. John LEE in his Policy Address today, especially those aim to position Hong Kong as a prominent global hub for post-secondary education and further promote the city as an international center for innovation and technology.
The initiatives, which include doubling the admission quota of non-local students at government-funded universities to 40%, scaling up investment in research and development, establishing the third InnoHK cluster, building the “Northern Metropolis University Town”, developing Hong Kong into a health and medical innovation hub, as well as different measures to attract and retain talent, will effectively enhance Hong Kong's position as a global innovation powerhouse with strong intellectual property value.

HKUST Enhances Global Educational Ties with Australian Institutions
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Prof. WANG Yang, along with Dean of Engineering, Prof. Hong LO and Head of Global Engagement and Greater China Affairs Ms. Yvonne LI embarked on a visit to Sydney and Brisbane to engage with partners and stakeholders in Australia.
Prof. Wang participated in the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Senior International Leaders' Meeting themed ‘One Pacific’ on September 25. The meeting provided a platform for representatives from 40 universities across Asia-Pacific to discuss about pressing challenges facing by the Asia-Pacific countries and explore the potential solutions.
