HKUST Pioneers Official Flexible Work Location Policy
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is committed to implementing flexible and family-friendly policies that foster an inclusive and supportive workplace. Recently, the University introduced a weekly work-from-home day and special leave options aimed at enhancing work-life balance and promoting an employee-centric culture.
While work-from-home arrangements have become increasingly common since the pandemic, HKUST has recognized the impact of fast-growing technology on the modern work environment, and became the first publicly-funded university to formally establish a flexible work location policy as part of a broad investment to attract and retain exceptional talent. Starting this October, HKUST employees may choose to work remotely one day each week, depending on the nature of their duties.

HKUST Kicks off for the first Cross Campus Art-tech Exhibition
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held the opening of the exhibition “Altering Nature: Exploring Life in Computational Art” on 30 Oct 2024, which is the first art-tech exhibition in collaboration with Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) of HKUST and HKUST (GZ).
HKUST Dean of AIS Prof. QU Huamin said, “The University owns our students some art education and Art Tech integrates different components of the University, making it a platform for showcasing the artworks of students and artists.” He expressed hopes that this exhibition would become an annual event, fostering ongoing collaboration between the Hong Kong and Guangzhou campuses.

Croucher Foundation Presents Senior Research Fellowships 2025 to Three Distinguished Scholars
Croucher Foundation held its Foundation Day Dinner and Awards Presentation Ceremony on 6 December to present the Croucher Senior Research Fellowships 2025 to three distinguished scholars from City University of Hong Kong (CityU), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU), for their outstanding scientific research achievements. Professor Rosie Young, GBS, JP, Honorary Fellow, world-renowned physician was the Guest of Honour at the ceremony.

HKUST and CMA Form Strategic Partnership to Advance Meteorological Research and Global Climate Resilience
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) have signed a collaborative framework agreement to drive innovation in meteorological science and education. By leveraging the complementary strengths of CMA and HKUST, the collaboration aims to enhance early warning systems, strengthen disaster preparedness, and build climate-resilient communities, underscoring the shared commitment of both institutions to tackle global climate challenges and support the initiatives of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The Forum brought together university leaders from around the globe to exchange innovative practices in interdisciplinary education and foster collaboration across diverse fields of study.

HKUST Celebrates Emirati Culture and Ongoing Partnership at UAE National Day Event
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed H.E. Shaikh SAOUD ALI AL MUALLA, the Consul General of the UAE in Hong Kong, to a cultural event celebrating the 53rd Eid Al Etihad (also known as the UAE Union Day) on November 28 at the HKUST campus.
Organized by the university's Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions Office in collaboration with the UAE student community and generously supported by the Consulate General of the UAE in Hong Kong, the event showcased traditional Emirati costumes, authentic dishes, and a photo exhibition featuring the iconic monuments of the UAE, bringing the spirit of the Emirati culture to the HKUST campus.

HKUST Research Unveiling the Possible Origin of Life from Deep Earth
A collaborative research team led by Prof. Ding PAN, Associate Professor from the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has made significant progress in studying the abiotic synthesis and stability of biomolecules in C-H-O-N fluids under deep Earth conditions. This research offers new insights into potential locations for the origin of life. The findings have been published online in the Journal of the American Chemical Society*.
