Strategic Commitment

We champion diversity, inclusiveness, and openness, a stance that is enshrined in our Strategic Plan 2031.

Our Diversity and Equal Opportunities Committee cultivates awareness and provides oversight on matters of equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion, including handling inquiries and complaints about harassment and discrimination.

Promoting and Protecting Equal Opportunities

Our Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination Policy applies to all our members and aims to foster a diverse, inclusive, and open learning environment. This includes preventing all forms of discrimination, harassment, or vilification and ensuring that inclusion and equality are embedded in all our operations and activities.

We have established our Procedures for Handling Discrimination/Harassment Complaints which outlines the process for handling discrimination and harassment complaints at the University.

The Prevention and Handling of Discrimination and Harassment: Guidelines for Supervisors and Managers has also been developed to provide best practices for preventing discrimination and harassment in our community.

Fostering a Culture of Inclusiveness

We actively promote understanding and support for all community members with diverse backgrounds or limitations.

The “From Diversity to Infinity” Festival provides interactive workshops demonstrating how to show support for all members of our society.

Global Diversity Awareness Month is celebrated annually to promote understanding and appreciation of the different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives that make up HKUST.

We have also produced the Inclusive Language Guidelines Booklet to help members make inclusive language part of everyday life and communication at HKUST.

Supporting Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Our SEN Support team offers a variety of services to ensure that students with special education needs have equal opportunities to succeed in their academic and non-academic pursuits.

Online training modules equip our members with the necessary knowledge and skills, while the SENtastic Leaders Program prepares our members to serve as representatives and advocates.

We have also set up a funding scheme for student activities on special educational needs to encourage involvement in cultivating inclusion.

Together these initiatives aim to transform our campus into a truly inclusive space highlighting everyone’s unique strengths.
