HKUST Sustainability Unit and the Student Affairs Office (SAO) launched the Green O' Camp Project 2016 to promote sustainability among student societies and encourage societies step forward to hold their activities in a sustainable manner.

HKUST UG Hall III launched a new Organic Farming Pioneers Program in January this year that aims to engage a group of Hall III residents who have strong passion to serve the residence community and promote the ideas of green living, respecting and appreciating nature.

Every summer, Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management (T&M-DDP) holds leadership training camp for all new students to unleash and polish their leadership potential. This year in August, over 50 new Year 1 and Year 2 T&M-DDP students admitted respectively from program-based and school-based admissions joined the leadership training camp at Sai Wan, Sai Kung.

When HKUST library recently replaced 1,000 meters of old carpeting in the entry lobby, they chose "Cool Carpet" which ensures that the new carpets will cause no harm by offsetting all the greenhouse gases (GHG) associated with the manufacturing, maintenance and end of life management of the carpet tiles.

Different from previous First Dinners, HSEO Sustainability Unit have joined hands with the Student Affair Office (SAO) and transformed this year?s My First Dinner @ HKUST into the first zero food waste event in UST.

如果你認為電影《鐵甲奇俠》內出現的懸浮影像只屬科幻小說情節，現在或許是時候改變這想法。增強實境（AR）是未來移動設備上的一項重要發展，目前科大的系統與媒體實驗室（SysMLab）正帶領這項科技研究。 由許彬教授率領的SysMLab研究員團隊正為程式編寫員建立平台，以促進AR在移動及穿戴式裝置上的應用發展。實驗室在2013年成立，一直致力透過虛擬世界提供個人化資訊，以解決日常生活問題。 採用「從下而上」研究方式的許教授解釋說：「我們設法找出及發展AR的主要組成部分，包括硬件平台、軟件框架及顯示裝置。」研究團隊亦使用「多項技術，包括物體追蹤和將計算程序置於雲端上進行，以提升發展周期的進度」，由三個月縮短至只需一星期。 實驗室成員已發展多項AR系統領先技術，並就此遞交了18項專利申請。在眾多實驗室項目之中，雲基實鏡（CloudRidAR）可將密集的計算操作，置於雲端和其他共同定位設備上處理，以提升AR應用程式的運作效率。因此，當用戶將手提電話裝置指向書本等物件時，便可即時查閱大量數據。 實驗室亦正發展一套名為Ubii 的系統。Ubii 可與智能設備進行互動，例如用家只要做出「拖拉」手勢，便可遙距將檔案傳送到打印機。此外，實驗室亦正開發其他項目，包括實時情緒感應系統，以及可防止用家被數碼相機辨認和拍攝的互動式私隱平台。 請按此了解詳情。

HKUST Information Day was held on 24 September 2016 to kick-start the student recruitment for 2017/18. Over 30,000 visitors including prospective students, parents and teachers joined the Information Day.
