學生宿舍第八及第九座均在天台栽種植物以降低室溫、裝置太陽能發電板及使用環保傢俱和裝修。 建築環保評估協會向科大兩座新落成的本科生宿舍頒發環保建築獎，評定樓宇設計及建造達至金級別，嘉許科大在可持續發展方面的努力。致力保護環境學生宿舍第八及第九座均安裝高能源效益升降機和空調設備；走廊及樓梯的照明系統均為智能感應，大樓亦安裝省水系統。而兩座宿舍的天台均栽種植物以降低室溫及裝有太陽能發電板。
