香港科技大学（科大）今日宣布委任林文怡博士为下任副校长(大学拓展)，自本年11月1日起生效。 林文怡博士现为思科系统全球副总裁兼执行总监及大中华区商业及跨国公司事务部总裁，她的工作履历覆盖国际科技企业、高等院校及创业领域，不单是极具经验的高级行政人员，亦拥有国际化背景，曾于北美、南美、亚太区及大中华区等地工作。她是思科系统中少数的亚裔女性领袖，曾被福布斯中国列为2017年中国最杰出商界女性首五十位之一。科大经严谨的全球招聘程序委任林文怡博士。 科大校董会主席廖长城先生对林博士的任命表示欣喜﹕「林博士具备优越的条件，凭借她在商界、高教界及创业方面的成功经验，我深信她定能以其环球视野，在这瞬息万变的世界，领导科大与全球企业和学术机构建立更深更广的合作。她亦将进一步提升科大的国际影响力，并深化科大与校友及其他持分者的关系，以支持大学的蓬勃发展。」 校长陈繁昌教授亦欢迎林博士加盟科大，他表示﹕「林博士不但对教育充满热诚，亦是一位土生土长的杰出女性领袖，她本人便是一个支持多元化发展的模范，能邀得她作为科大高层管理团队的一员，我们感到十分荣幸。我亦必须藉此机会，衷心感谢翁以登博士在任七年来对科大尽心尽力的服务及所作的贡献，特别是在其领导下，不论是大学品牌的国际地位、筹款，以及与内地和国际间的战略合作关系，均得到提升。此外，翁博士亦透过不同的活动，包括由他推动创立的科大校友基金及世界各地的校友分社等，成功加强了大学与校友的联系，而其主力筹办的科大25周年庆祝活动，亦十分成功。」 林博士于香港出生及长大，赴美留学前曾于拔萃女书院就读，她的职业生涯从史丹福大学的研究教学工作开始。林博士对培育下一代充满热忱，她是一名活跃的义工导师，除辅助女性于大中华区科技领域上的发展，亦积极与学生分享其知识与经验。林博士曾于2010至2016年间出任科大的客席副教授，自2015年起她亦为南京大学商学院的客席教授。林博士曾于硅谷创立过两间初创公司，其中一间的主要业务为将教育研究商业化。 林博士于史丹福大学取得统计学及认知科学/社会心理学的学士、硕士及博士学位，其间获授予美国大学专为优等生而设的Phi Beta Kappa及Summa Cum Laude荣誉资格。

PowerSearch got a new look and new functions this summer. Not only at HKUST, but at all 8 UGC-funded university libraries (known as JULAC) as well. We have all moved onto one single online platform for you to find, access, retrieve, and request resources from the 8 UGC libraries. The aggregate collection of materials from all JULAC Libraries is known as HKALL.

Resilience is the ability to "bounce back" from adverse situations, such as trauma, tragedy, threats, or other significant sources of stress. Several factors are found to enhance people's resilience. They are "R.E.B.O.U.N.C.E.".

The new Library website was rolled out in August 2016, with massive content migration completed in that summer. It replaced our 20 years old in-house developed library website system with a completely new look and design. The website was so well developed, it was granted the Best in Class Award in the 2017 Interactive Media Awards competition, indicating that the project had met and surpassed the standards of excellence, and the website had met strict guidelines in all areas ? an achievement that only a small fraction of sites in the competition could obtain.

The Summer Internship Closing Ceremony, organized by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) was held successfully on 11 August 2017, indicating that the AA Summer Internship Program 2017 finally came to an end. Three IPO students from the Risk Management and Business Intelligence Program (RMBI) and the Environmental Management and Technology Program (EVMT), together with four other HKUST students selected for the Program had a fruitful experience in this eight-week internship and gave their project presentation in the ceremony.

Dr Jason Chan of the Chemistry Department is passionate about sharing knowledge with the new generation, but underpinning this obsession is love and respect for chemicals. He might look like an ordinary professor but Dr Jason Chan is a lively spark. The Hong Kong native is in the limelight promoting chemistry on TV shows including TVB’s “Scoop” and “Sidewalk Scientist”. However, he got a start in very humble beginnings, with home experiments in his washroom. “I’m a collector of the elements, and as a high school student I was once making bromine, a very corrosive liquid, for my elements collection and after sealing the liquid into glass ampoules, I found one had not been sealed properly,” he says.

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, a growing collection of videos was made to feature the remarkable community at HKUST – past and present. “I wish HKUST and believe HKUST will be forever young.” Director of Human Resources Office, Ms Yvonne Ho said.

香港科技大学（科大）于学生宿舍推出全新「首年住宿生活体验」计划，旨在让一年级新生顺利过渡和适应大学生活，并透过各项宿舍活动，为新生营造关爱共融的学习环境。 科大一向致力充实同学的大学生活，今次的先导计划，为约500位新生﹕当中包括约四分一非本地生，提供满一个学年的住宿安排。入住宿舍期间，他们将获得「本科生学长导师」的照料。这批高年级学长会安排不同活动，以便宿生们建立友谊，协助新生融入环境。 科大现为所有一年级学生提供最少一个学期的住宿安排，此计划启动后，大学将逐步提升新生的入宿比例，期望最终所有新入学的本科生，均获最少一年大学住宿的机会。 科大学务长Robert Wessling博士表示：「我认为教育并不只限于班房授课，舍堂生活是大学教育的重要一环，它为学生带来友谊、社交网络，以及学术与情绪上的支持。我期望新同学透过这体验计划，能更容易适应科大的生活，建立长久的友谊，学习珍惜和尊重不同文化，并懂得利用这些不同的观点与角度，贡献社群。」 大学已为69位「本科生学长导师」提供培训，内容涵盖如何识别情绪问题、领导技巧与个人成长发展等范畴。学长导师来自不同学院及学生组织，每人负责带领六至八位新生，这些新生组别的结构由校方悉心编配，以确保成员来自不同背景。学长导师会于个人、社交及学业方面，为学弟学妹提供意见，有需要时亦会充当他们与舍堂总监及其他组织的桥梁，为新生排难解纷。舍堂总监由教授出任，负责为宿舍设计专题活动。而这些由学长带领的新生组别之间，亦会各自组成更大的学习组群，进一步提升同侪间的支持。 一个刊载于《大学生发展期刊》的研究曾指出，学生参与如「首年住宿生活体验」的计划后，不论于学生组织及课外活动方面的参与度(约增加15%)、与同侪及教授间的互动(约增加5%至10%)，于学术知识上融会贯通的程度，以至情商方面的发展，均较没有参与此等计划的留宿学生明显提高。 科大上周举办首个由大学主导的迎新营，为整个计划揭开序幕。参与者于为期两天的迎新营中，渡过了愉快的时光。他们透过各种游戏、校园导赏、交流分享以及其他校外活动﹕包括乘船游览及烧烤夜等，互相认识及了解。 有关香港科技大学
