In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, a growing collection of videos was made to feature the remarkable community at HKUST – past and present. “It takes much longer time to educate a person than growing a tree. I wish HKUST will keep growing into a big tree.” Manager of Facilities Management Office, Mr Jack Chan said.

國際知名的科研大學香港科技大學致力建立一個環保校園，並旨在於廣泛社區擔任領導角色，以實踐和推動可持續發展概念。 其中值得注意的例子，就是科大在創校之初採用海水製冷技術，為學術大樓中央冷氣系統供冷。其後，科大把這項先驅技術擴展至全新落成、樓高八層的鄭裕彤樓，透過擴充原有的中央供冷站產能，建立區域性製冷系統，從而達致最高效能和減少碳排放。 上述項目有效節省數百萬元的營運成本和減低耗電量，因而得到國際認可，獲美國能源工程師學會頒授2016年亞太區年度能源計劃大獎。預期這項優化計劃可減低鄭裕彤樓的每年耗電量達20%至35%，並節省港幣150萬元的營運及維修費用。 在「科大2020 可持續發展挑戰」計劃下，科大承諾在2020年或之前減低整個校園的耗電量達10%。這項行動計劃旨在建立可持續發展社群網路，研發和評估可持續發展教育的新路向，並率先減少能源消耗和固體廢物，以及減排溫室氣體。 自2014/15學年起，科大溫室氣體排放和整體固體廢物量已分別減少逾13%及4%，而廢物回收量則增加15%。另外，科大已投放資源落實多項減廢計劃，而本校學生亦盡展所長，當中「可持續校園領袖計劃」的學生環保代表（Eco-reps）舉辦綠色市集（Green Products Fair）和Lunch Box Go Green等環保活動，藉此於校園內推廣可持續發展概念。

One of the first HKUST students to join the HeadStart@HKUST Program, which combines Internship, Mentorship and Fellowship, Beatrice Chan spent her internship last summer with Taiwan Public Television Service and found it gave new impetus to her personal dreams. Assigned to the production team of Taiwan Outlook, a talk show that gives Chinese communities worldwide latest insights into the political, economic and cultural environment in Taiwan, Beatrice was given the responsibility of producing her own 50-minute episode – despite having no previous experience of the TV industry. “I had to do my own background research, decide who I wanted to interview, prepare my own questions and even help with the post-production afterwards.  It was a huge challenge for me as I’m not a journalism major, so was not even sure of the best way to ask questions.”

香港科技大學於三月二十三日假香港賽馬會大堂舉行「弦夢成真」音樂會，由十五名獲特別培訓的科大學生與科大管弦樂團合奏，更邀得蜚聲國際的小提琴家兼香港弦樂團藝術總監姚珏女士擔任獨奏嘉賓。是次音樂會是科大藝術中心主辦的2017年科大藝術節的重點活動，當晚吸引近千名觀眾到場，科大校長陳繁昌教授以吉他伴奏，參與演出Beyond 樂隊著名歌曲時，更是掀起了音樂會全晚的高潮。 科大雖是一所研究型國際學府，亦致力提倡學生對藝術和音樂的興趣，及鼓勵參與文化活動，培育學生全人發展，啟發創新思維，成就他們的錦繡未來。 學位課程以外，科大透過提升音樂方面的培育，讓學生發掘自己的多元潛能和實現夢想。是次音樂會是「弦夢成真師友計劃」演出巡禮的一部份，由香港弦樂團和八大院校合作，展開為期十八個月的訓練和演出。經過嚴謹甄選，參與計劃的學生獲香港弦樂團的音樂家專業指導和交流，並得到寶貴的演出經驗。 數周前在三月十一日，由八大院校的精英組成的「二十一世紀聯校樂團」，在奧斯卡獲獎作曲家譚盾的指導下舉辦了一場音樂會。獲選拔參與的演奏者當中，有七位是來自科大，包括兩位本科生，三位研究生和兩位校友。

Agnes Ku is a sociologist and an Associate Professor at the Division of Social Science of HKUST. She is the first faculty member who holds a solo exhibition at the HKUST Library. This exhibition features more than 20 photos in panoramic format taken by Professor Ku using a mobile phone. She is particularly interested in exploring the relations among memory, identity and cityscape.

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, a growing collection of videos was made to feature the remarkable community at HKUST – past and present. “Having an interview with the President Woo made me think that apart from tracing my own roots, I should also look for ways to contribute to the city of Hong Kong.” Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Prof Johnny Sin said.

The University?s 25th birthday celebration ended in the Library with a book launch on February 27. Prometheus in the Sky, is published to commemorate the innovation and diverse accomplishments of the University in its short history.

T&M-DDP Annual Party 2017 was held on 4 March 2017 to strengthen the bonding between each cohort and faculty and build up a strong network among the program.
