Little did Sandra Sobanska know when she left her native Poland in 2014 to join HKUST’s Global Business undergraduate program, that within three years she could be part of a team staging anything quite like Hack Horizon. However this unique international - and airborne – hackathon is only the latest stage in the exciting journey Sobanska says she’s been on since her arrival in Hong Kong. 

Recent news covered Chris Ko from the class of 2017 about her vegetarian tea cafe in Tsim Sha Tsui, and how she made good use of every skill she learnt from HKUST’s EVMT program to realize her dream. “When I chose to apply to the Environmental Management and Technology (EVMT) program, I thought I would be learning about a wide range of environmental issues and their solutions,” said Chris. “But what’s more, I discovered what I wanted to do, and the program helped me achieved my goals.” EVMT offers students a unique opportunity to grasp scientific and technological concepts and translate them into practice-based and sustainable business ideas. The intense, cross disciplinary program only admits 15 students every year, making it one of the most competitive degree programs in Hong Kong. “Many people still think that going ‘green’ loses money,” said Chris.

In the past 2016/17 academic year, Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management (T&M-DDP) students joined various competitions and demonstrated their outstanding abilities and potentials of future consultants and engineers.

香港科技大學(科大)與滴滴出行宣佈達成合作夥伴關係，雙方將在前沿技術研發、人才培養、學術交流、創業專案孵化等領域展開深入合作，優勢互補，共同推動智慧交通系統研究和科技成果轉化，協助智慧城市建設。 根據協定，科大和滴滴出行將在智慧交通系統前沿技術、創新技術等領域展開研究，包括但不限於機器學習、智慧交通、資料採擷、運籌學、自然語言處理、電腦視覺、機械人等方向。同時，雙方將充分發揮自身科研技術實力，聯合申請各類政府研發項目及重大專項，攜手進行創新科技成果轉化，不斷突破創新前沿。 除此之外，科大還將與滴滴在人才培養、學術交流、創業孵化專案上達成合作，共同探索人才培養的新模式與新機制，聯合進行課題研究及業界最新前沿動態研討，助力創新創業。 科大是國際知名的研究型大學，致力於發展尖端科研，在科學和工程學範疇成就輝煌。其專業研發領域涉及人工智能、數據科學、資訊技術、智慧城市諮詢規劃等，且彙聚了領域內多位頂級專家。 作為全球領先的一站式出行平台，滴滴出行不僅依靠產品、技術創新顯著提高了用戶的出行體驗，還積極以人工智能、大數據技術支援整體優化交通管理體系，用新技術、新業態來改進傳統行業，解決交通堵塞、污染和安全問題。 科大校長陳繁昌教授表示，科大一直致力通過產學研合作促進智慧城市的發展，推動香港發展成為創新及科技樞紐。滴滴在大數據與技術方面的積累已經全球領先，相信與滴滴的合作能助力大數據時代的交通創新科技研究，共同培養全球化的科技創新人才。 滴滴出行CTO張博表示，依託於在城市交通領域累積的豐富經驗，滴滴正在支援城市管理者建設一體化、可持續的智慧交通解決方案，並取得了積極的成效。目前滴滴已和武漢、濟南、深圳、貴陽等20多個城市展開智慧交通合作，內容涵蓋智慧信號燈、智慧誘導屏、智慧公交、智慧代駕熱力圖、智慧交通運行報告等多個方面，「此次和香港科技大學展開合作也將能提速智慧交通領域的科研發展，為用戶提供更加優質的出行服務，為更多城市創造更多價值。」

A vegetarian or vegan lifestyle is more than protecting the lives of innocent animals, but also to enable a more sustainable way of living. This is why one of the working groups under Green Team held series of events to educate staff and students of HKUST about the benefits of living a plant-based lifestyle.
