香港科技大學（科大）今天（11月16日）舉行第四任校長史維教授就職典禮暨第二十六屆學位頒授典禮，並向三位傑出學者及社會領袖頒授榮譽博士，表揚他們的重大成就及其對社會的貢獻。他們分別是（按英文姓氏順序排列）： 新世界發展有限公司主席兼執行董事鄭家純博士－工商管理榮譽博士 史丹福大學劉易斯和弗吉尼亞伊頓心理學教授Carol Dweck－工商管理榮譽博士 科大校董會前任副主席兼署理主席唐裕年先生－文學榮譽博士 為紀念創校校董會主席鍾士元博士逝世，現任大學校董會主席廖長城先生在畢業禮上，帶領一眾畢業生及嘉賓默哀，為鍾博士對科大所作的重大貢獻表示敬意。 廖先生說：「作為科大創校的靈魂人物之一，鍾博士為大學訂立了明確的理念。科大的使命在於培育科技人才，以推動香港以至世界的經濟和社會發展，這為大學發展初期，以至後來的茁壯成長打下了重要基石。就讓我們謹記科大的使命，我相信，今天正式成為大學第四任校長的史維教授，將一如既往地領導大學，繼往開來，帶領我們再創高峰。」 在今年9月1日履新的史維教授，於其就職典職上，正式獲校董會主席廖長城先生加冕成為新任校長。史教授在他就職演說中承諾，他會竭盡所能，延續科大協助香港經濟和社會發展的使命。他在演說中分享科大將面對的挑戰和機遇，並提到廣州分校的發展計劃，以及將科大校園化身成生活實驗室的可持續發展智慧校園計劃。 於學位頒授典禮中，史教授則祝賀畢業生，寄語他們要隨心而行，並在踏入人生新階段的同時，不忘抱著一顆解決世界問題的決心。史教授表示：「現今世代，日新月異的科技發展對我們的生活影響深邃，它在提升我們生活質素的同時，亦導致貧富懸殊、窒礙地球可持續發展及社會流動性等問題，我們絕不能接受貧富差距持續擴大，更不應坐視不理，我期待你們改變現狀。無論你們將來擔當甚麼崗位，我相信，你們定能為這些挑戰尋找答案。」

香港科技大學（科大）籌備委員會主席兼創校校董會主席鍾士元博士G.B.M., J.P.今天在香港離世，享年101歲。科大對鍾博士離世深感哀痛，並向鍾博士的家人致以深切慰問。 科大校長史維教授表示：「鍾博士是一位高瞻遠矚和充滿決心的偉人，他為香港的發展，特別是政治、公共衛生及高等教育方面，作出非常重要的貢獻。三十年前，當香港面對回歸前景未明之際，他已預視有需要成立科大﹕香港第三所以及唯一一所研究型大學，以培育香港未來所需的人才。今日所見，科大始終沒有偏離一眾創辦人所賦予它的使命，積極創新，並透過於教研方面不斷求進，以協助香港及內地的經濟和社會發展，我為此感到無比自豪。鍾博士的貢獻將永留青史。」 鍾博士於前港督尤德爵士治港期間，為本港三所高等院校的籌備工作擔當領導角色。在他帶領下，香港理工學院和香港城市理工學院（現為香港理工大學和香港城市大學）先後創立，以滿足當時以轉口貿易為主要經濟模式的香港對技術人才的渴求。其後至八十年代中期，香港面臨社會和經濟模式的轉變，栽培科技人才對香港未來發展變得至關重要，鍾博士再次策劃並帶領科大的籌建工作。 鍾博士貢獻科大逾廿載，自1986年起，他擔任科大籌備委員會的主席，及後於1988年至1999年間擔任科大首位校董會主席。其後，鍾博士出任科大顧問委員會主席，協助大學籌款及其他促進大學利益的事宜，他至2008年退任並留任榮譽主席。鍾博士亦於1999年至2011年間出任科大副監督。 有關香港科技大學 香港科技大學（www.ust.hk）是國際知名的研究型大學，其科學、工程、商業管理及人文社會科學領域，均臻達世界一流水平。科大校園國際化，提供全人教育及跨學科研究，培育具國際視野、創業精神及創新思維的優秀人才。科大的研究於香港的大學教育資助委員會「2014研究評審工作」獲得最多「世界領先」評級，亦於最新的《泰晤士高等教育全球年輕大學排名榜2018》中排行第一，而科大的畢業生在2017年度的全球大學就業能力調查排名第12位，位列大中華院校之首。 傳媒查詢:
