Stepping into the Library, Leaving Footprint on Greenhouse Gas Free Carpet
When HKUST library recently replaced 1,000 meters of old carpeting in the entry lobby, they chose "Cool Carpet" which ensures that the new carpets will cause no harm by offsetting all the greenhouse gases (GHG) associated with the manufacturing, maintenance and end of life management of the carpet tiles.

Green Trekkers Finding New Home for Hall Residents' Items
Same as previous years, the Student Housing and Residential Life Office organized the recycling activity during student hall check out period. But their new Green Trekkers program has redesigned the "Give and Take Campaign" to minimize the amount of waste and facilitate the exchange of items.

簡單科技帶來重大改變
香港科技大學學生以創新意念解決問題,為改善柬埔寨貧民的醫療衛生服務出一分力。 科大推出創新和國際化的社會服務計劃,讓本科生可糅合知識及技巧,應用於發展中的地區,創建有效和實用的方案,協助志願組織提供醫療衛生服務。 「視野無界」(SIGHT)課程由生物醫學工程學部兼化學及生物分子工程學系教授周迎領導。該課程近日與紐西蘭志願機構One-2-One Cambodia合作,這家機構在柬埔寨金邊的貧困地區以有限資源營運流動診所。 科大學生在了解One-2-One的兩項逼切需要後,就此研發兩項所需的設備,並在校方協助下把設備運送到柬埔寨的醫療隊,分別是可妥善存放和方便運送藥物的流動藥箱,以及電子醫療紀錄系統,其配備指模掃描器以提高認證病人的準確度。 這兩項創新發明均是以當地的需要為中心,例如貧民窟居民大多沒有身份證明文件甚至姓名,觸發科大學生加入指模掃瞄的功能。周教授指出︰「我們引導同學在設計產品時從使用者的需要出發。學生團隊成員利用各自的專長研發設備,可為民眾的生活帶來重大改變。」這項計劃由始至終均由學生主導。他們不但負責設備的工程部份,並同時協助志願機構人員適應新系統的運作。為引進指模認證功能,科大學生團隊更自發舉辦籌款活動,集資購入指模掃瞄器。 科大正與更多夥伴團體商討展開新的計劃。「視野無界」目前與一家本港機構,以及印尼、柬埔寨和中國等地機構探討合作機會。
