香港科技大學深切悼念創校校董會主席鍾士元博士
香港科技大學(科大)籌備委員會主席兼創校校董會主席鍾士元博士G.B.M., J.P.今天在香港離世,享年101歲。科大對鍾博士離世深感哀痛,並向鍾博士的家人致以深切慰問。
科大校長史維教授表示:「鍾博士是一位高瞻遠矚和充滿決心的偉人,他為香港的發展,特別是政治、公共衛生及高等教育方面,作出非常重要的貢獻。三十年前,當香港面對回歸前景未明之際,他已預視有需要成立科大﹕香港第三所以及唯一一所研究型大學,以培育香港未來所需的人才。今日所見,科大始終沒有偏離一眾創辦人所賦予它的使命,積極創新,並透過於教研方面不斷求進,以協助香港及內地的經濟和社會發展,我為此感到無比自豪。鍾博士的貢獻將永留青史。」
鍾博士於前港督尤德爵士治港期間,為本港三所高等院校的籌備工作擔當領導角色。在他帶領下,香港理工學院和香港城市理工學院(現為香港理工大學和香港城市大學)先後創立,以滿足當時以轉口貿易為主要經濟模式的香港對技術人才的渴求。其後至八十年代中期,香港面臨社會和經濟模式的轉變,栽培科技人才對香港未來發展變得至關重要,鍾博士再次策劃並帶領科大的籌建工作。
鍾博士貢獻科大逾廿載,自1986年起,他擔任科大籌備委員會的主席,及後於1988年至1999年間擔任科大首位校董會主席。其後,鍾博士出任科大顧問委員會主席,協助大學籌款及其他促進大學利益的事宜,他至2008年退任並留任榮譽主席。鍾博士亦於1999年至2011年間出任科大副監督。

凱洛格 - 科大EMBA課程第九度榮膺全球第一
由香港科技大學和凱洛格商學院合辧的行政人員工商管理碩士(EMBA)課程在英國《金融時報》全球EMBA課程2018年排名中再度位列榜首。本年適逢課程二十週年誌慶,同時第九度榮膺全球第一EMBA課程,別具意義。
香港科技大學校長史維教授祝賀課程屢獲國際認同:「凱洛格 - 科大EMBA課程連續三年榮登榜首,不僅再次肯定科大為國際領袖提供優質課程的領導地位,亦令各科大各同事感到自豪。」
凱洛格-科大EMBA課程自1998年推出以來,一直為全球高級行政人員提供優質管理教育。自2007年至今,課程已九度榮膺世界第一,保持多年全球領導地位。課程在二十多年成功培育全球商界精英,建立了逾千人的強大校友網絡。
根據《金融時報》剛公佈的2018年全球EMBA課程排名,凱洛格-科大EMBA課程在多個範疇中表現出色。在「事業發展」方面,課程畢業生的平均年薪水平在畢業三年後一直高踞榜首,今年更達507,492美元 (約3,976,990港元);另畢業生在修讀課程前後的平均薪金增幅達66%。

香港科技大學獲廣東博智林機器人捐贈港幣二億元 促進大學在人工智能與機器人方面的研究及教育工作
香港科技大學(科大)獲廣東博智林機器人有限公司捐贈港幣二億元,支持大學深化人才培育及研究創新的工作,特別是與機器人、人工智能、智慧城市及大數據相關的範疇。
廣東博智林機器人是碧桂園控股有限公司的全資子公司。捐款將應用於不同項目,包括設立教授席與獎學金等,有助科大加強推動研究及培養更多人才,促進香港及內地創新科技發展,支持兩地邁向知識型經濟。
碧桂園集團創始人兼董事局主席楊國強先生表示有決心推動香港與內地的人工智能與機器人發展,他說﹕「我們將投入八百億元興建『機器人谷』,在這個項目上,我們很高興能與多間包括科大等知名院校合作。我和科大有著共同的願景,雙方都希望推動內地機器人方面的研究及教育工作,並協助內地與機器人等領域相關的公司,在國際舞台上發揮影響力。我希望這筆捐款可以進一步支持科大培育人才,激發創新思維。」
科大校董會主席廖長城先生對捐贈表示感謝,他說﹕「楊先生不只為無數家庭建造房屋,更為不少學童—尤其出身自弱勢家庭的同學修建學校。楊先生一直熱心捐獻,務求盡力讓所有學童獲得接受良好教育的機會。今天,他對科大作出的重大饋贈,將讓大學師生得以在一個創新的環境下釋放潛能、發揮所長,並繼續於人工智能與機器人研究上取得卓越的成就。」
科大校長史維教授表示﹕「科大由衷感謝楊先生的樂善好施及其多年來對教育界的貢獻。科大與楊先生方向一致,深信人工智能與機器人是推動增長的新動力,所以我們建立這長期及全面的合作關係,促進人工智能與機器人的發展。楊先生的捐贈,將令科大得以繼往開來,在科研發展上取得新突破,並履行我們的使命,協助香港與內地的經濟及社會發展。」
楊先生於1992年成立碧桂園,公司其後在香港上市,並成為世界五百強企業。楊先生其後進一步把業務拓展至創新科技,於今年七月成立子公司廣東博智林機器人。廣東博智林機器人將會通過在物聯網、人工智能、雲端計算及大數據上的研發,集中發展智能製造及機器人核心技術。
有關香港科技大學
