At HKUST, we encourage our community to care more about the pressing environmental issues, our student Eco-Reps of Sustainable Campus Leadership Program, Rinaldi Gotama took a gap semester and volunteered as a research assistant for Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Project in West Indonesian Borneo. In HKUST, many of our students spent a term or more overseas through exchange or internship program, nevertheless, India may not be a popular choice for most students but Homan Yueng, student of Mathematics and Economics chose and got the most out of it. Check out Homan’s story to learn his unique experience in his 9-month internship in India! Homan Yeung BSc (Math and Econ) Can you briefly describe your working holiday experience, and what attracted you to do something different? I spent 9 months working as a Business Development Executive in a software product company in Hyderabad, India. My key responsibility was to expand our business into the Greater China Region. We marketed our mobility solutions to IT specialists or CIOs through conference calls.

Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management (T&M-DDP) students Juliana Ko and Raymond Tam together with Ambi Yuen, MPhil student in Electronic and Computer Engineering, jointly invented a smart baby diet tracker to keep track of baby feeding and won many design and start-up competitions.

How would you choose between music and computers? Chuck-jee Chau, PhD student of Computer Science and Engineering is smart enough to combine two by carrying out research on the synthesis and analysis of sound. It?s been three years since the Sustainable Campus Leadership Program was launched that provides hands-on experience for students to design and implement their own Green Campus Projects in HKUST to address different sustainability issues.

Jasmine LEE, EVMT graduate, joined Schneider Electric HK as Management Trainee by winning the international green competition "Go Green in the City" and now is promoted to be Assistant Engineer. Let's share her story.

香港科技大学(科大)首届HeadStart卓越领先计划透过早期职场体验及职业发展指导计划，旨在给予一、二年级的本科生在日趋国际化、竞争激烈及瞬息万变的社会中一个「领先优势」。 由科大校董会成员梁嘉彰女士、廖家俊教授及人文学部人文教育助理教授邵梅仪发起，HeadStart卓越领先计划于今年2月启动。有别于一般实习计划，HeadStart卓越领先计划包含3个部分，包括实习、师友及伙伴，为学生提供一个全方位的体验及职场训练。 邵教授表示：「计划的诞生源于创办人一个简单的愿望，就是希望香港年轻新一代能展望将来，有一个不同的愿景。我们希望他们能学习盼望，相信他们的未来取决于自己，透过努力及坚定的信念，年轻人可以追随自己的心及热诚，他们亦可以成为具影响力的领袖，将我们的社会以至世界建设成更美好的地方。」 计划的主要活动包括工作坊和关于提高职场意识的人际关系技巧的培训、与行政人员会面、公司考察、行政人员辅导和指导以及拓展人际网络。透过这些活动，学生不但更早得到关于职业意见、而且因而变得自信，更有能力与职场接轨。与此同时，亦令不同学系的同学联系起来，增进友谊。 56名来自理学院、工学院、工商管理学院、人文社会科学院及跨学科课程事务处的学生获机会到24间本地及国际企业实习。本地生占六成一，内地生占一成，而来自日本、新加坡、台湾、美国及其他国家及地区的非本地生则占二成九。提供实习机会的企业业务包括零售、投资银行、科技、地产发展、媒体以及创意工业等。
