On a radio program, CBE Assoc. Head and Assoc. Prof. Terence WONG Tsz-Wai shared his team’s entrepreneurial journey in developing the GlenSIA machine.  The machine uses AI and optical technology to generate pathological images in three minutes – ten times faster than traditional frozen sections, with an accuracy rate of over 95%.

Provost Prof. GUO Yike, also Director of the HKGAI, talked about education in the AI era at the 2026 World AI Conference & High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance.  He emphasized the importance of fostering independent thinking and imagination, stressing that global AI cooperation is more crucial than competition.

環保署創新隔音罩減噪音壓縮工期

The acoustic metamaterial noise enclosure developed by HKUST is made from recycled plastic, making it lightweight and well-ventilated.  It has been successfully deployed in the Fung Shue Wo Road construction project in Tsing Yi, allowing extended nighttime work hours and a shortened construction period, effectively reducing noise disturbances and showcasing the innovative strength of green technology.

Breakthrough in Stable 2Ah Lithium-Sulfur Pouch Cells

A research team led by HKUST CBE Chair Prof. SHAO Minhua, Chongqing University Prof. LI Cunpu and Prof. WEI Zidong and CityU Prof. LIU Bin has developed an electron-injection-softened strategy to regulate the electronic structure of the sulfur host, enabling a nearly barrier-free cascaded SRR.  Their work demonstrates a 2-Ah-level stable Li-S pouch cell, marking a major step toward the practical application of Li-S battery technology.

The 4th "Four Seas Cup" Hong Kong International University Student Weiqi Competition kicked off on Wednesday at HKUST, drawing a record 29 teams from 25 countries, with the attendance of Secretary for Education Dr. Christine CHOI Yuk-Lin and Hong Kong Greater Bay Area WeiQi Promotion Association Chairman Ms. Xu Ying.  VPIA Prof. Charles NG Wang-Wai said the event has become a popular Weiqi contest for college students in HK, while AIS Dean Prof. QU Huamin noted that the Weiqi course has been sought after by local students.

HKUST received HK$54.41 million in funding from the RGC for two elderly care research projects, representing the highest total funding amount among local universities.  The projects leverage AI in healthcare to enhance the management of bacterial infections in older adults and provide integrated management for Parkinson's disease, aiming to advance precision medicine for the elderly and improve nursing home care.
