At the WAIC 2026, Arm China and HKUST Physical AI Innovation Center announced a collaboration on VLA models. They will work together to transition VLA models from laboratory research to engineering application for embodied platforms. CSE/ISD Chair Prof. and Director of the Physical AI Innovation Center GUO Song emphasized that the development and deployment of VLA models rely on underlying chip architecture and engineering support. He added that and the collaboration will optimize the models, promoting the application of domestic Arm chips in closed-loop physical scenarios.

A research team led by ECE Asst. Prof. YANG Yansong, with PhD student QIAN Fangsheng as first author, has developed "Layered Acoustic Wave", a novel chip architecture that enables miniature acoustic devices inside smartphones to withstand over 12 times higher power loads while maintaining cooler, more stable operation. The research result was published in the international journal Nature Communicationstitled " Suppressing Acoustomigration and Temperature Rise for High-Power Robust Acoustics ".
On a radio program, CBE Assoc. Head and Assoc. Prof. Terence WONG Tsz-Wai shared his team’s entrepreneurial journey in developing the GlenSIA machine. The machine uses AI and optical technology to generate pathological images in three minutes – ten times faster than traditional frozen sections, with an accuracy rate of over 95%.
