A research team led by OCES Head/Chair Prof. GAN Jianping discovered that average rain rates increased by more than 20% in the 60 hours preceding the landfall of tropical cyclones, based on an analysis of related data over the past 40 years. 

A research team led by Provost Prof. GUO Yike and CBE Assoc. Prof. ZHOU Yuanyuan has developed GrainBot, an AI-enabled toolkit that automatically extracts and quantifies multiple microstructural features from microscopy images.  

An AI symposium was held at HKUST to discuss strengthening AI cooperation between HK and Guangxi.  

Four HKUST scholars have been honored as Fellows of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) 2025, including VP for Research and Development and ECE/CSE Chair Prof. Tim CHENG Kwang-Ting, CSE Chair Prof. JIA Jiaya, CSE Prof. YI Ke, and AVP (Knowledge Transfer) and HKUST(GZ) AI Thrust Chair Prof. XIONG Hui.  

Financial Secretary Paul Chan announced in the new Budget that the Government has earmarked resources to support, on a matching basis, HKUST in developing the third medical school, which aims to admit its first cohort of students in the 2028/29 academic year.  

A research team led by ECE Asst. Prof. LIN Yen-Hung has developed a multi-source co-evaporation process that significantly improves the crystal quality of vacuum-deposited perovskite films, marking the first certified breakthrough in fully solvent-free perovskite solar cell technology. 

A research team led by CHEM Asst. Prof. Kenward VONG has achieved a significant breakthrough by bioengineering "lectin-directed protein aggregation therapy", a new type of glycan-targeting system.  

HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) hosted the Nobel Symposium, which engaged over 450 students, faculty members, and public guests.  

HKUST hosted a special screening of the documentary “Shen Zhou 13” on February 6.

A research team led by Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering Asso. Prof. KIM Yoonseob,  pioneering a mechanical bond strategy to create quasi-solid-state electrolytes (QSSEs) for lithium-metal batteries (LMBs). 

HKUST has received a donation of HK$20 million from the GS Charity Foundation to establish the "GS Charity Foundation - Biomedical and Biotechnology Talent Scheme".  

HKUST has partnered with Gammon Construction Limited, Swire Properties, and AXA Climate on a pioneering initiative to apply the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework to commercial premises.  A team of students from HKUST's BSc in Environmental Management and Technology has completed Hong Kong's first student-driven TNFD-based assessment for commercial properties, providing strategic recommendations to integrate nature into business and financial decisions.
