The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) warmly welcomed Prof. Evelyn WELCH, Vice-Chancellor and President, and Michael BENSON, Director of Global Partnerships at the University of Bristol on May 20 to deepen research ties and spark new collaboration.

Hosted by HKUST Provost Prof. GUO Yike and HKUST (Guangzhou) Vice-President and Dean of HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School Prof. Charles NG, the visit marked a key milestone. The two universities signed an MOU and launched a joint Global Knowledge Network research seed grant initiative to drive global academic collaboration and maximize research impact.

"HKUST is proud to collaborate with the University of Bristol in advancing joint research through our Global Knowledge Network,” said Prof. Guo. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to fostering impactful academic collaboration, driving innovation, and addressing pressing international issues through interdisciplinary expertise. By connecting talent and resources across institutions, we aim to create knowledge that transcends borders and contributes to meaningful discoveries for the betterment of society."

Prof. Welch added: “This is the first time Bristol has signed an agreement like this and represents a landmark moment for us in terms of how we engage with our partners globally. This match funded staff exchange is part of the Global Knowledge Network scheme at HKUST, which includes several world leading universities. We are delighted to be the first UK partner to join their network. We expect this agreement will deliver a step change in terms of research output between our two research intensive institutions.”

With shared goals and complementary strengths, HKUST and the University of Bristol are set to co-create research that tackles pressing global challenges.
