HKUST Wins Prestigious CES Innovation Awards at CES 2024 in US

Two start-ups incubated by members of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have been awarded “CES Innovation Awards” at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 now being staged in the United States. Scoping the highest number of awards among Hong Kong universities, these accolades recognize HKUST's significant contributions to the innovation and technology eco-system, cementing its position as a leading institution in the global tech landscape.

The two winning HKUST start-ups are: AI Guided Limited and Sitan Semiconductor International.

AI Guided Limited, a trailblazer in the field of accessibility and aging tech, was honored in the "Accessibility and Aging Tech" category for its revolutionary product, the "GUIDi™ Smart Belt". The company invented the wearable device harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and MEMS technology to empower visually impaired individuals. With features including dual wide-angle cameras, an edge AI module, sensor integration, haptic navigation, and voice command, the wearable device offers a highly intelligent and independent navigation system for the visually impaired to increase their mobility.

Sitan Semiconductor International, another standout participant from HKUST, received recognition in the "XR Technologies and Accessories" category for its exceptional "0.13-inch micro-LED Display Module". Co-founded by Prof. LIU Zhaojun, Adjunct Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at HKUST, and two other HKUST alumni, Dr. SUN Xiaowei and Dr. QIU Chengfeng, the company’s display module showcases their expertise in integrated circuits and systems. The inherent advantages of the 0.13-inch micro-LED Display Module, including high brightness, long lifetime and high efficiency, demonstrate unparalleled visual quality and provide immersive experiences in extended reality (XR) applications, making it the best choice for display units of AR/XR products.

Dr Shin Cheul KIM, HKUST Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer), said, “We are very proud to witness that two HKUST Start-ups have been honored with CES Innovation Awards. This recognition demonstrates the University’s global leadership in innovation and technology by HKUST Start-up companies.
