冯雁教授在人工智能领域遐迩闻名，其贡献远超各项科研突破及其创建的智能系统。 在科大春风化雨二十四载，冯教授堪称现代女性模楷。 今次这位人工智能专家与一位工程学女生促膝而谈，从成长经历说起，进而以女性角度探讨工程学与人生目标。 身为工程学本科生，这是我首次与冯教授面对面倾谈，得此良机，虽然自觉幸运，但紧张难免。 然而，当冯教授步进房间的一刻，我立时给她所展现的热诚和自信折服，知道必会从她身上获益良多。 我要证明你是错的冯教授年轻时兴趣广泛，从艺术、商业到科学，皆有涉猎，机械人和科幻小说尤其叫她着迷。 成为工程师的志愿，早在中学时代已经萌芽。 双亲虽然十分支持女儿勇往直前，追寻梦想，但身边人却不看好，甚至大泼冷水。 冯教授说：「亲友告诉我妈，说我虽然聪颖，在很多事情上独占鳌头，但数学成绩难与男孩子匹敌。 我当时心里暗想，一定要证明他是错的;自此以后，我的数学成绩总是名列前茅，从未失手。 」不看好其工程路的，还有力劝冯教授转攻医科的学校辅导员。 那时候，对于喜爱科学的女孩，社会普遍认为当医生便是她们的最好出路。 「我跟他们说，我要当工程师，不是医生！ 我对生物学没有兴趣，而且我怕血！ 」冯教授边说边笑。  「其他人还告诉我工程师之路崎岖难行，女孩子要争一席位，更是事倍功半。 但我说，我就是非做不可，结果我说到做到！ 」即使天赋不凡，也总得遇上伯乐才可发光发热。 在学校里，冯教授幸运地遇上一位热心的实验室技术员，为她打开通往工程学殿堂的大门，就像大热电视剧集《后翼弃兵》的女主角，受校工启蒙终成国际象棋巨匠。 她回忆说：「我就读女子中学，在众多学生兴趣小组中，唯独没有工程学会！ 幸好遇上这位实验室技术员，愿意在课余时间充当我和几个女孩子的导师，传授工程学和电脑编程知识。 我甚至成立电子学会 — 虽然会员只有自己一人！ 」
