Results Announcement for 2021 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards co-organized by HKUST
Tsz Hin CHAN from Pui Ching Middle School received the Gold Award for his research report titled “On Non-Torsion Solutions of Homogeneous Linear Systems over Rings” at the 2021 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards. The Scientific Committee noted that Tsz Hin’s research report was at postgraduate level and demonstrated outstanding logical thinking and analytical ability. On Ki LUO from Pui Ching Middle School and Wai Lok LAI from St. Paul’s Co-educational College won the Silver Award and the Bronze Award, respectively. Together with the five Honorable Mentions of equal ranking, HK$1 million in prize money will be shared among winning students, and their teachers and schools, in recognition of their mathematics research projects that meet the highest academic standards in terms of methodology, research, and scholarship.

HKUST and CCB Co-organize Fintech Master Program to Cultivate Financial Talents and Foster Connectivity
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the China Construction Bank (CCB) today to co-organize a master program in Financial Technology (MSc in Fintech) in the new academic year – the first such program in the Greater Bay Area.  The collaboration – which also includes a mini-MBA program targeting micro, small and medium enterprises (SME), and CCB sharing financial cases and data with HKUST for relevant joint research projects – sets a new model for youth exchanges and financial connectivity between Hong Kong and the mainland.

HKUST Collaborates with Hang Lung to Foster Young Mathematics Talent
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Hang Lung Properties will co-organize the Hang Lung Mathematics Awards (HLMA) to empower Hong Kong secondary school students to realize their creative potential in mathematics and sciences, ignite their passion for intellectual discovery in the interests of society and humankind, and advance the development of STEM education.Founded in 2004, HLMA is an acclaimed mathematics research competition in Hong Kong. This biennial event has attracted over 2,200 participants from around 200 secondary schools and received almost 400 research papers, many demonstrating university-level academic standards. A total of HK$8 million in prize money has been awarded to past HLMA winners. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was the inaugural partner of the Award.

HKUST Becomes the First University in Asia-Pacific Associated with EY Tax Lab
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announces a collaborative partnership with EY’s Advanced Technology Tax Lab (“Tax Lab”). This unique collaboration brings together experts in data science, machine learning and business research, as well as a global leader in professional services, to solve complex tax issues through the use and application of advanced technologies.  The agreement between HKUST and EY will establish a platform for joint research and technology development opportunities of mutual interest relating to the application of emerging technology to practical tax scenarios, thereby facilitating collaborations between the two organizations. This will include practical tax technology case study projects, speaking opportunities for HKUST academic staff and EY partners, and internship and graduate employment opportunities for students.

Fighting Neurodegenerative Diseases
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) together with Boston Children’s Hospital – a Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital (Harvard), the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging at Stanford University School of Medicine (Stanford), and University College London (UCL) today, signifying a partnership to engage in advanced translational neuroscience research. The momentous occasion was witnessed by The Hon Mrs. Carrie LAM Cheng Yuet-Ngor, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR); Mr. Andrew LIAO Cheung-Sing, Council Chairman of HKUST; Prof. Wei SHYY, President of HKUST; Mr. Nicholas W YANG, Secretary for Innovation and Technology; and diplomatic representatives including Mr. Andrew HEYN, British Consul General in Hong Kong.
