HKUST Signs MoU with Microsoft Research Asia Fostering Collaboration in Future Medical Education and Research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft Research Asia to enhance collaboration in medical health education and research. Focusing on three strategic areas – nurturing talent, revolutionizing smart healthcare, and developing enabling research – the MoU strives to drive the future collaboration of medical education through a holistic approach. HKUST and Delft University of Technology Launch Partnership on Art and Technology Education and Research
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands, have formed a new strategic partnership focused on art and technology education and research.
This partnership, inaugurated on December 6, 2024, by HKUST Dean of the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS) Prof. QU Huamin and a delegation from TU Delft led by Prof. Maaike KLEINSMANN, Chair of the TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam Program, marks a significant milestone in fostering interdisciplinary innovation, and enhancing knowledge exchange in art and technology to create meaningful social impact.

HKUST Partners with Alibaba to Establish Joint Lab for Big Data and AI
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Alibaba Group (Alibaba) today, outlying their plans to establish the “HKUST-Alibaba Joint Laboratory on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence”, with an aim to fostering forward-looking research in emerging technologies including generative AI and big data.
Signing the MoU on campus today were Prof. Tim CHENG, HKUST Vice-President (Research & Development) and WU Zeming, Chief Technology Officer of Alibaba Group. Under the agreement, Alibaba and HKUST plan to jointly establish the lab over the next three years, researching on frontier areas including AI, data science, language models, multimodal training and inference, computational infrastructure and system software. The joint lab and its research projects will be managed, coordinated and planned by committees formed by experts from both parties.

HKUST Recruits Top Indonesian Students with Indonesian Government Partnership
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a landmark agreement with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (MoECRT), making HKUST the first university in Hong Kong to nurture outstanding Indonesian undergraduates under the Indonesia Education Scholarship for Degree Program in collaboration with MoECRT.
Following the agreement, the first batch of 12 top Indonesian undergraduate (UG) students will join HKUST in the new academic year (2024-25) via a rigorous selection process. MoECRT will provide them with a full scholarship covering tuition fees, living expenses and other allowances, for the duration of their academic programs. The students will be joining HKUST in September to study UG programs in Science, Engineering, Business, Humanities and Social Science, as well as interdisciplinary fields.

Results Announcement for 2021 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards co-organized by HKUST
Tsz Hin CHAN from Pui Ching Middle School received the Gold Award for his research report titled “On Non-Torsion Solutions of Homogeneous Linear Systems over Rings” at the 2021 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards. The Scientific Committee noted that Tsz Hin’s research report was at postgraduate level and demonstrated outstanding logical thinking and analytical ability. On Ki LUO from Pui Ching Middle School and Wai Lok LAI from St. Paul’s Co-educational College won the Silver Award and the Bronze Award, respectively. Together with the five Honorable Mentions of equal ranking, HK$1 million in prize money will be shared among winning students, and their teachers and schools, in recognition of their mathematics research projects that meet the highest academic standards in terms of methodology, research, and scholarship.
