HKUST Signs MoC with China Banking Association, Shenzhen University, and China Construction Bank University to Co-develop First FinTech Qualification Framework in China
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the China Banking Association, Shenzhen University, and the China Construction Bank University to co-develop a professional qualification for Fintech practitioners in China. This collaboration manifests a pioneering effort between Mainland China and Hong Kong to establish a nation-wide qualification framework and enhance professionalism for the fast-moving FinTech industry. As a major FinTech intellectual powerhouse in Asia, HKUST Business School is not only undertaking a major government-funded research project on FinTech, but also offering training programs to nurture talent for the industry. With unrivaled knowledge in the field, HKUST is the only institution from Hong Kong represented in this meaningful cross-border collaboration.

HKUST and WeBank Launch First HK-Guangdong Joint Laboratory in Banking
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and WeBank Co. Ltd (WeBank) have established the HKUST-WeBank Joint Laboratory to nurture talent and explore cutting-edge technologies.  Leveraging on both parties’ advantages in research and knowledge transfer in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the joint lab will collaborate on areas spanning artificial intelligence (AI), big data, blockchain as well as financial and regulatory technologies. This collaboration also serves as a high-level collaborative innovation platform for enterprises, universities and research institutes to promote knowledge transfer under the GBA Development Framework.

MoC Signed between HKUST and ZA International to Strengthen Collaboration in Fintech and Insurtech
The School of Business and Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) and ZhongAn Technologies International Group Ltd (ZA International) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to open up a new stream of opportunities for faculty and students in the fields of Fintech and Insurtech. The HKUST Business School aspires to become a major intellectual powerhouse of Fintech in Asia and is undertaking a major Fintech research project funded by the Research Grants Council under its Theme-based Research Scheme. The project examines the impacts of Fintech on Hong Kong and looks into ways to contribute to the development of the city into a global Fintech hub.

HKUST Hosts First University Fintech Education Forum
The Big Data Institute (BDI) of HKUST co-hosted the first ever University Fintech Education Forum with partners Financial Data Technologies Ltd (FDT) and Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). Speakers in the forum include many prominent figures in the fintech and big data industry, such as Qifeng Liu, Co-founder and CEO of FDT-AI, Henry Ma, Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Webank, Ying Yan, Lead researcher from Microsoft Research,  James Lei, Acting Director of ASTRI, and Yang Qiang, Head of Department of Computer Science & Engineering, and Director of the Big Data Institute. In his opening address, President Prof Tony F Chan emphasizes the importance of the synergy between fintech and big data/AI research in a rapidly changing world. “Societies that response quickly will see their economy stay ahead and competitive in this digital age.”

HKUST and FSDC Hold Forum to Explore Career Opportunities in Financial Services
The School of Business and Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) and the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) jointly hosted a forum on 5 October to give students a closer look at the wide variety of career opportunities in the financial services sector. Entitled “Careers in Financial Services”, the forum is the fifth event under the FSDC's Practitioner Speakers Series, which aims to provide guidance to young graduates and university students and help them plan career paths in the financial industry. Around 100 students attended the forum to explore with a leading financial practitioner the career prospects in the sector.
