Chan Kai Ho, Hercules, a Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) Year 4 student, won the "Best Student Invention Award" at the Hong Kong Information and Communication Technology Award 2017 with a mental health app "VOID".

The annual Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony was held on 2 March 2017 to express appreciation and recognition to long-serving faculty and staff members who have dedicated their hard work to contribute to the University for 20 years. This year, HKUST presented awards to 66 colleagues.

The Design Museum at London awards the Lumos Helmet, co-created by Jeff CHEN, alumni of Dual Degree Program of Technology & Management, the Beazley Transport Design of the Year.

Determined to close the gap between current and environmentally sustainable practices, Karen Leong, 2016 graduate of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, has been rewarded with a prestigious international engineering prize. Karen is the first Hong Kong recipient—and one of the few female recipients in a 62-year history—of the annual Arthur L Williston Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Her winning submission was a paper entitled “Fuel Choice Regulation—The Way to Narrow the Gap Between Current IMO Marine Standard and 2025 Greenhouse Gas Emission Target”.

Prof Danny Chi Yeu Leung, Assistant Professor from the Division of Life Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), was honored with the prestigious Croucher Innovation Award 2017 by the Croucher Foundation for his distinguished scientific research achievements. The award carries a value of HK$5 million over a span of five years. Secretary for Innovation and Technology Mr Nicholas Yang officiated at the award presentation ceremony last Thursday.

A team of undergraduate students at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has developed a wheelchair which is not only cheap, but is also safe and effective enough to be crowned silver in the powered wheelchair race of Cybathlon - the world’s first "Bionic Olympics", against competitors including Imperial College of London and ETH Zurich. Developed by a team of seven HKUST students in just eight months’ time, the wheelchair, driven by pilot Carol Ng Cho-yu from the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth, finished the race comprising six obstacles – which include stair climbing and crossing uneven surface, in 3 minutes 39 seconds, just five seconds behind the Champion. The team – supervised by Prof Robin Ma, Prof Michael Wang and Prof Christopher Chao from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, is planning to refine and commercialize the product to make it Hong Kong’s most affordable stair-climbing wheelchair.

Award for Outstanding RMBI Capstone Projects Presentation Ceremony 2015/16 was held on 15 June 2016 to recognize students' efforts and achievements in completion of final year Capstone Projects.

Charles WONG and Ricky CHAN, Year 3 students of Risk Management & Business Intelligence (RMBI) Program, won the Champion of the Business Sustainability & Risk Management Case Analysis Competition 2016 organized by The Association of International Accountants (AIA)-Hong Kong Branch.
