Different from previous First Dinners, HSEO Sustainability Unit have joined hands with the Student Affair Office (SAO) and transformed this year?s My First Dinner @ HKUST into the first zero food waste event in UST.

When HKUST library recently replaced 1,000 meters of old carpeting in the entry lobby, they chose "Cool Carpet" which ensures that the new carpets will cause no harm by offsetting all the greenhouse gases (GHG) associated with the manufacturing, maintenance and end of life management of the carpet tiles.

At HKUST, we encourage our community to care more about the pressing environmental issues, our student Eco-Reps of Sustainable Campus Leadership Program, Rinaldi Gotama took a gap semester and volunteered as a research assistant for Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Project in West Indonesian Borneo. It?s been three years since the Sustainable Campus Leadership Program was launched that provides hands-on experience for students to design and implement their own Green Campus Projects in HKUST to address different sustainability issues.

To promote the practice of "use less, waste less", with the joint efforts of most caterers on campus, we shall re-launch the "Less Rice for $1 Less" and "Bring Your Own Reusable Container" programs with effect from 1 September 2016

In the "Psychology of Environmental Sustainability" course, students from a variety of backgrounds worked in groups to address real-world sustainability issues on campus.
