With the support of Barons & Company, HARMAN, a Samsung company and IBM Global Business Services, 2017 fall term's Corporate Project merged artificial intelligence with executive recruitment to coach students to provide an AI solution in executive recruitment to gain competitive advantages for business growth. The project aims at providing students with hands-on experience in solving complex real business problems and polishing their advanced skills in strategic thinking and executive communication.

HKUST Establishes Joint Lab on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision with Face++
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Megvii (Face++) yesterday on establishing a joint laboratory on artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision.  The lab will be dedicated to improving people’s living and advance knowledge frontiers through researches in AI and image recognition and analysis, marking a new milestone in the collaboration between HKUST and Megvii.

HKUST Joins Partnership on AI to Spearhead Ethical AI Development
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has recently joined an international not-for-profit consortium – Partnership on AI to Benefit People and Society (PAI) – to promote the development of ethical artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure safety, security, privacy, transparency and fairness of such technology in Asia. Founded by tech conglomerates including Amazon, Google, Facebook and Microsoft, PAI admitted HKUST as the first Asian institution, along internationally-acclaimed academic institutions including The Oxford Internet Institute of the University of Oxford and the Center for Information Technology Policy of Princeton University, to join its prestigious league.

The Big Data Institute (BDI) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today (Friday) organized its first Big Data and AI Day, playing host to a stellar assemblage of world top academics and industry celebrities in the realm of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI), sharing information and insights into the future of this trendy field.Since the establishment of the BDI in 2016, its first Big Data and AI Day drew a learned audience of over 500 guests, including local and overseas academics, leaders in the Big Data and AI-related industries, as well as students from various tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and abroad. The overwhelming attendance attested to the key role of HKUST's research in these fields.

Microsoft’s Executive Vice President for Artificial Intelligence and Research Dr Harry Shum Speaks on Artificial Intelligence at HKUST 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series today, featuring Dr Harry Shum, Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence and Research Group. The event was well received by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST. Speaking on “Realizing the Promise of Artificial Intelligence – moving from machine-centric to human-centric, from perception to cognition, and from rational to emotional”, Dr Shum shared Microsoft’s vision, efforts and tangible progress in accelerating artificial intelligence (AI).

HKUST and WeChat Establish Joint Lab on Artificial Intelligence Technology
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) celebrated the opening of the WeChat-HKUST Joint Laboratory on Artificial Intelligence Technology (WHAT LAB) on 26 November. The Joint Laboratory  is dedicated to fostering artificial intelligence and big data research to improve people’s living and advance the frontiers of knowledge, marking a milestone in the collaboration of WeChat and the higher education sector. WHAT LAB, located in HKUST, will be led by Prof Qiang Yang, New Bright Professor of Engineering, Chair Professor and Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Research areas of WHAT LAB include intelligent robotic systems, natural language processing, data mining, speech recognition and understanding. The Lab will bring together top researchers in the development of innovative artificial intelligence application with the database of WeChat.
