The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) jointly launched the "Redbird Cross Campus Study Program" today.  The program will promote resource sharing and synergy between the two campuses under the “Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses” framework, through mechanisms including course sharing, credit transfer and student exchanges in academics, research and social activities. 

With over 17,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from more than 80 countries or regions at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), we pride ourselves as a true cultural melting pot. In the Global Minds@HKUST series, we’ll take a closer look at the unique experiences of some of our international students.  Embarking on a dual PhD program across two different countries may seem like a daunting task, but for Shabnam TAGHIPOUR, an Iranian student pursuing dual PhD degrees in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Civil Engineering at Sharif University of Technology (SUT) in Iran, it’s an opportunity to make a difference. In the third edition of Global Minds@HKUST series, we delve into Shabnam’s story and explore how she balances her academic pursuits with a deep sense of social responsibility for a more inclusive world.

一場充滿時裝設計創意的盛宴今日卻在你意想不到的香港科技大學（科大）校園上演﹗作為備受矚目的科大衛衣（Hoodie）設計大賽決賽，六位科大模特兒身穿六項衛衣設計作品，青春活潑地登上時裝天橋展現科大社群獨特的創作意念。早前開展的科大衛衣（Hoodie）設計大賽獲學生及教職員熱烈參與，合共徵集逾百項參賽作品，而決賽天橋秀更為今日第二屆「Timeout HKUST」活動增添一道亮麗風景線。 活動現場氣氛熱烈，最後由科大師生和評審團一同選出「最佳衛衣設計」及「最佳模特兒」，並由校長葉玉如教授、大學評議會主席兼校董會成員曾建中先生和協理副校長（環球事務及傳訊）陳佩珠女士頒獎。此外工作時工作、學習時學習、行樂時行樂，再度貫徹今年的「Timeout HKUST」活動，一眾大學管理層在內的數百名師生和校友，一起停一停 、 玩一玩，體驗「古怪冰壺」、「一擊即中」、「節拍變奏」、「乒乓灌籃」等攤位遊戲，以及體驗由科大學生輔導中心和科大深度遊帶來的精彩活動。

香港科技大學（科大）在剛過去的星期六（10月14日），舉辦本科入學資訊日，吸引近4萬人次到訪，創歷史新高。今年資訊日的主題是「We Shape the Future（一起塑造未來）」。作為推動人工智能研發和應用的先鋒，科大是香港最早於教學上應用生成式人工智能（GenAI）的教育機構，因此在今年的資訊日，特別開放科大不同的ChatGPT版本予同學試玩。另作為全港首間投放資源支持創業的大學，科大創業中心亦舉辦了多個初創企業分享，包括邀得奧運乒乓球獎牌得主、透過學生運動員學習支援及入學計劃（SALSA）入讀科大物理系的蘇慧音同學，分享其開設爆谷加盟店的初創經驗。科大校長葉玉如教授亦有到場與同學交流，與蘇慧音一同派發爆谷小食。 科大的理學院、工學院、工商管理學院、人文社會科學學院和跨學科學院，當日亦舉辦了多場課程講座以及其他精彩的體驗和參觀活動，讓蒞臨的同學，包括來自本地及內地港人子弟學校的應屆文憑試學生、內地高考學生和國際課程學生，了解科大的校園生活及最新入學要求。

 "Having started learning piano when I was four, I find it easier to play music in a quiet environment than to listen to human speech," says HKUST Engineering freshman, Bosco YUNG. Despite his profound hearing loss, Bosco is not only an outstanding student, but also a Grade 8 pianist. “Physical disability should never be a barrier to success. With unwavering determination, anyone can overcome obstacles.” 

“More women and girls in science equals better science.” This is the simple equation proposed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres during February’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science.While women remain underrepresented in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the last decade has seen more and more ambitious female students enter and advance in traditionally male-dominated technical professions. 

Over 400 students from different universities, amateurs and professional athletes from a diverse cultural background, gender identity and ethnicity joined the Unity Games – a two-day sports event co-hosted between The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2023 (GGHK) during the weekend, as part of the University’s unceasing efforts to promote diversity, equality and inclusion.

Our students, like others around the world, are adapting to the impacts of a pandemic in full swing and the city on partial lockdown. With their lives turned upside down, many are feeling growing anxieties and fears about the unknown future. For final-year biotechnology major Sharon CHUNG Sze-Long, the outlook is even grimmer: the class of 2020 will graduate into the worst job market in many years because the global economy has been hit hard due to the pandemic. “Final years are typically fraught with worry and uncertainty, but what our cohort is facing is something else.
