HKUST Students Win National Aircraft Design Competition
Five undergraduate students from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) came second among 153 teams – comprising mostly postgraduate students and professionals, in the first and biggest national aircraft design competition organized by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). The “Soaring Dragon” is a two-seater amphibious aircraft featuring a pair of hydrofoils at the bottom that minimizes the take-off distance on water, a downward folding wing tip that warns pilots of water breaches and foldable wings which allows flexible movements and storage on ground. The students who created “Soaring Dragon” will be invited to join an expert team at HKUST commissioned to build a similar model for the private aviation market in Mainland China.

HKUST Achieves Best Results in CIMA Global Business Challenge
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) undergraduates have achieved the best results ever in the CIMA Global Business Challenge in Hong Kong. One team took the championship title and the other was the second runner-up. To complete an impressive performance, an HKUST student was named the “Best Future Business Leader”. The CIMA Global Business Challenge is organized by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), a professional body of management accountants with more than 218,000 members and students worldwide. Its annual competition is designed to test undergraduate students’ skills and knowledge in all areas of business management through an assessment of professional competence in management accounting. Teams of four are asked to prepare and present recommendations in a business scenario.

HKUST Undergraduate Team Wins International Case Competition
A team of HKUST undergraduate students won the 2014 Scotiabank International Case Competition organized by the Ivey Business School in Canada. Although the case subject was about Canadian agriculture, an unfamiliar topic for Hong Kong students, the team outperformed their peers from other top business schools around the world and impressed the judges with their thoughtful analysis and practical business solution.Professor Emily Nason, Associate Dean and Director of Undergraduate Programs at the HKUST Business School, said, "Case analysis is one of the key learning experiences provided by our programs. Students are presented with business challenges, which can help them develop business sense and critical thinking skills, and be better prepared for future careers."

Two HKUST Students Receive Top 10 Outstanding Youth Awards
Two students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology have won Top 10 Outstanding Youth Awards - a prestigious prize presented by HKSAR Home Affairs Bureau and Commission on Youth to commend their outstanding achievements in personal development, leadership and social services. Samantha Wing-man Kong, a Year-Three student of Chemical and Environmental Engineering and also Head Student Ambassador, was a dual winner who also scooped the Social Service Award in the commendation scheme. Year-One Science student Phoebe Cheuk-lam Lam was the youngest winner in the Open Category of the Award for eight years' participation in community services.

The Women's Foundation and ANZ launch a new Scholarship Award to encourage female undergraduates to pursue engineering and technology degrees at HKUST
ANZ donates 30 paintings painted by Susan Yuen, CEO of ANZ Hong Kong, for auction to raise proceeds for scholarship fund The Women's Foundation and ANZ announced today an exciting new partnership to address the under-representation of young women in Hong Kong pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects at university. The need for this support comes on the back of a new study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) for The Women's Foundation showing that the technology sector continues to be largely male-dominated in Hong Kong.

HKUST Enters Partnership with China Merchants Group to Provide Internships And Overseas Exchange Opportunities
A cooperation agreement between the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and China Merchants Group is set to bring exciting new learning and career development opportunities to HKUST students. Under the agreement, China Merchants Group will offer undergraduate internships and job openings, while the launch of the China Merchants Scholarship Program, totaling $500,000, will enable outstanding undergraduates to undertake overseas exchanges. Also included in the agreement is a tailor-made HKUST executive education program to assist China Merchants Group management in navigating the global business arena.

HKUST Celebrates Official Launch of World Bachelor in Business with Partner Universities
Senior academics and administrators from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the University of Southern California (USC) and Bocconi University gathered in Milan, Italy, to celebrate the official launch of the World Bachelor in Business (WBB) program, an innovative undergraduate program in which students will live and study on three continents and earn degrees from three universities. The WBB program, to be jointly offered by the three universities starting from the fall of 2013, represents a unique approach to undergraduate education that will prepare future leaders to meet the demands of the increasingly connected world. In celebration of the program's official launch, a conference on "Globalized Education for a Globalized World" was held in Milan on 12 October.
